| The Whispering - Continued |

| The forest seemed to swallow him and everything in it. It was so foreboding that not even the trolls or goblins dared to enter. A strong feeling of despair and hopelessness began to invade his mind. He fought the urge to give into the darkness that tried to keep him from his mission. Thoughts of death, torture and destruction pound his mind and soul so forcefully that he becomes disoriented and lost. The pain from his attack intensifies to the point where he collapses. Thinking that all was lost he screams. The darkness swallowing him. All becomes still quiet and dark. The memories flood back again. Oh not those memories. He feels the tightness of the shackles that held him hand and foot. The evil laughter rings in his ears as do the lady’s screams. The whip slaps against his back tearing him apart. The angelic blood splattering everywhere. He could hear them taking turns with her laughing as she told them that they would pay dearly. Suddenly he found himself free. In his hand he was clutching the sprig of rosemary left for him. His mind now more clearly focused he began again. Not knowing if he were going in circles or not he sat to think. He remembered something else given to him. She said this would help me find my way home. He takes out of his pouch a long braid of golden hair. She said place it next to your heart and it will guide you. He reasoned that he had to find his way to his old home before he could return to his new one. Within minutes he was out of the forest but was he going the right way or had he lost time. He found his answer soon enough for when he looked ahead he could see a familiar view. Anyone who was ever invited to his room could say that they had seen it as well, for the mural on his walls was the reflection of this place. He studied the view and felt glad to be there. The waterfall was as lovely as ever and the birds sang their happy tunes. He walked over to the waterfall, stripped and dove in bathing himself and preparing for the ritual. It had been a long journey just to get here, but this was not the exact place he needed to be. After bathing, Todesengel decided it was time for a bit of rest. He laid back on the ground looking at the lovely sky; soon he was asleep. He awoke the next morning and watched the sunrise. After which he bathed again and set up his altar. The large pure white candle was placed on top and the little golden bowl beneath it. He took the oil out of the bag, and coated himself with it Next the candle was lit by his eyes. He took his bejeweled dagger and slit the end of his ring finger. The blood ran into the bowl coating it. The sun shone higher and his hair and skin gleamed in the light. The scars on his back were visible to anyone or anything that might pass his way. Slowly his golden wings emerged shimmering in the sun. The medallion began to glow a deep ruby color. There was a brilliant flash and he knew he had made it home. As he opened his eyes, he could see the true beauty of this place. He had not seen it in years too numerous to count. A land closed to mortals. The flowers were always blooming and the sky always blue. At night the stars always shone bright. He heard the lyre birds singing and remembered the one he gave to her. Looking at the clear waterfall and lake, he could swear that he saw her just like the first time. He allowed his memories to flow. All of the love he felt for her was still there. There was a gentle touch to his shoulder and a female voice that said, “You love her and miss her dearly do you not my son?â€ “Yes Mother I do.â€ he said as he turned to her. She was as lovely as ever. Her smile sweet and inviting. She was a true Goddess. She led him to her private gardens. “Sit my son for we have much to discuss.â€ “Mother I feel very torn inside. Very confused as well.â€ Todesengel said to the Goddess. She replied â €œMy golden one, listen to what I say. This is something that I never told you or anyone else.â€ A slight pause. “Todes my son, When I created you, I gave you something that no other being here has.â€ He looked at her and down to his medallion. Before he could say anything she spoke once again. “No not that. Something much more powerful than a simple piece of jewelry and that my son only tells them who you are. You were given a human heart. I wanted to see how this little thing could love.â€ He looked at her visibly shaken by her words. “Tell me mother why was I made to suffer? The others here care for nothing really. Most serve you because they understand that you created them. Others because they are afraid of your wrath. I have always loved you and served you not because of some duty or fear, but because I wanted to please you. It is such a strong feeling that at times I feel that I will explode.â€ She smiled at him, “Oh Todes, you do not understand how much power that little heart has do you?â€ “No. I do not understand what you mean.â€ a little anxiety heard in his voice. “All that I know is that I have always loved and there is one more than the others. I only get brief chances to share the love we hold for one another before she is gone again. There are many others that I love dearly. Each one in a slightly different way, but none more than another. They are all unique and dear. Some much different than others. I cannot choose between them.â€ “My darling son, there is no reason to choose. You can love them all as you already do. Love them equally as you should. I know you want them all to be happy, but Todes you cannot do that. They have their own choices to make. |
